Description
Grade Levels: 8–12
Course Length: One Year
Credit Available: Science Lab 1.0
This year-long zoology course invites students to explore the fascinating world of animals through hands-on learning, research, and field observation—all within a biblical framework. Ideal for students who care for pets or have access to animals, the course emphasizes animal classification (taxonomy), creation-based learning, and real-world application.
Students will complete reading, research, and writing assignments using materials from their home or public library, online resources, and optional texts like Answers in Genesis. They will also report on the creation of animals as described in the book of Genesis.
Hands-on learning is key. At least one-third of the course hours will involve lab work—caring for animals, observing behavior, visiting farms or zoos, and using tools such as bird identification guides or animal anatomy coloring books (optional). Suggested outings include a farm visit in Week 33 and a zoo visit in Week 35, but these can be adjusted to fit your schedule.
Credit Options:
- 1.0 credit = 150 hours (approx. 5 hours/week)
- 0.75 credit = 112 hours
- 0.5 credit = 75 hours
- 0.25 credit = 40 hours
Students will log their weekly hours and activities to determine credit earned.
Note: 8th grade students may earn high school credit for this course with an additional fee of $130.
This course offers a meaningful way to combine science learning with faith-based values, curiosity, and care for creation.
