Description
Grades: 8–12
Course Length: One Year
Available Credit: Science Lab – up to 1.0
This year-long Environmental Science course gives students the opportunity to study ecosystems, climate, natural resources, and the impact of human activity on the planet—all from a creation-based perspective. Students will learn through a mix of guided research and hands-on exploration of the natural world.
Designed for flexibility, students can use books from their family or public library, internet sources, and suggested materials such as those from Answers in Genesis, which align with a young-earth creation view. Topics may include the origin of the earth, environmental stewardship, and the scientific method.
Field experiences—like hikes, visits to nature centers, or family trips to varied ecosystems—will count toward the lab portion of the course. Students will be expected to document their time and learning activities.
Credit Breakdown:
- 1.0 credit = 150 hours
- 0.75 credit = 112 hours
- 0.5 credit = 75 hours
- 0.25 credit = 40 hours
Approximately one-third of the total time should be hands-on or lab activities. For every two weeks of research, students should complete one week of active field study or hands-on engagement.
This course is ideal for motivated, independent learners who enjoy nature and want to deepen their understanding of environmental science in a way that supports biblical values.
